Follow My Lead: Trust Me

By now we've talked a lot about hearing the Shepherd's voice.

But hearing His voice is only part of the journey.

What happens next matters just as much.

Jesus said:

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."

John 10:27

Notice the progression.

They listen.

He knows them.

They follow.

Relationship comes before obedience.

Trust comes before following.

And trust requires something that many of us find difficult:

vulnerability.

The more I study Jesus, the more I realize He already knows the thoughts I'm trying to hide.

He knows when I'm afraid.

He knows when I'm selfish.

He knows when I'm angry.

He knows when I'm confused.

He knows when my motives aren't as pure as I'd like them to be.

Yet He invites me to bring those things to Him anyway.

Not because He needs the information.

Because I need the honesty.

Real relationships require honesty.

Imagine trying to build a friendship while hiding every thought, fear, mistake, and struggle.

It wouldn't work.

The same is true with God.

The Shepherd already knows where we've wandered.

He simply wants us to admit it.

To bring it into the light.

To stop pretending.

To tell Him the truth.

When we do, something remarkable happens.

We discover He isn't shocked.

He isn't angry.

He isn't looking for a reason to reject us.

Instead, He gently begins teaching us.

He helps us see things from a different perspective.

He points out what is hurting us.

He shows us where we're hurting others.

He reveals places where fear has replaced faith or where pride has replaced humility.

And then He invites us to make a different choice.

Not through shame.

Not through guilt.

Not through condemnation.

Through love.

The Shepherd doesn't expose our weaknesses to embarrass us.

He reveals them so He can heal them.

And every time we listen and respond, we become a little more like Him.

That's the beauty of following Jesus.

He isn't trying to catch us doing something wrong.

He's teaching us how to live.

One conversation at a time.

One lesson at a time.

One choice at a time.

As trust grows, obedience becomes less about rules and more about relationship.

We follow because we trust the One leading us.

We trust because we've experienced His goodness.

And we become vulnerable because we've learned that His love is safe.

That's what sheep discover about a good shepherd.

They learn that his leadership can be trusted.

And when trust is established, following becomes natural.

Make It Personal

What have you been hesitant to bring before God?

Is there a thought, fear, frustration, or struggle you've been trying to manage on your own?

What would it look like to be completely honest with Him today?

Can you trust that the Shepherd already knows and still loves you?
