FOLLOW MY LEAD Day 3: He Restored, Then He Sent

The Encounter

Only days earlier...

Peter had stood beside a fire insisting he didn't know Jesus.

Now he stood beside another fire.

This one looked different.

Jesus had prepared breakfast.

No lecture.

No reminder of Peter's failure.

Just bread.

Fish.

And a place beside Him.

I wonder if Peter expected Jesus to bring up the denial.

Instead...

Jesus asked a different question.

"Peter, do you love Me?"

Three times.

Not because Jesus needed the answer.

Peter did.

Every question quietly redeemed another denial.

Every answer became another step toward healing.

Then Jesus said something remarkable.

"Feed My sheep."

Not...

"Prove yourself."

Not...

"Earn another chance."

Not...

"Don't fail Me again."

Simply...

"Feed My sheep."

Then...

"Follow Me."

Restoration Has a Purpose

Peter had spent three years watching Jesus.

Listening.

Learning.

Questioning.

Failing.

Trying again.

Jesus never expected Peter to become the Rock by trying harder.

He knew Peter first had to discover the limits of his own strength.

Peter thought his devotion would sustain him.

Instead...

His failure revealed something deeper.

Apart from Jesus...

Peter could do nothing.

Perhaps that's true for us too.

Many of us begin following Jesus because we need Him.

We need forgiveness.

Hope.

Healing.

Answers.

Jesus welcomes us there.

But He doesn't leave us there.

Slowly...

Our dependence changes.

We stop following Jesus because of what He can do for us.

We begin following Him because we can't imagine life without Him.

That's where Peter finally arrived.

Not confident in Peter.

Confident in Christ.

The Master Teacher

Jesus never wastes an experience.

Peter's greatest failure became Peter's greatest classroom.

The disciple who once denied Jesus...

Would become the shepherd who strengthened thousands.

The man who once depended on himself...

Would eventually write,

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."

Jesus restored Peter.

Then He entrusted him with people.

That's what the Master Teacher does.

He teaches us.

He restores us.

Then He sends us to help restore others.

The responsibility of grace...

Is becoming a person of grace.

The responsibility of learning...

Is teaching.

The responsibility of being loved by the Father...

Is helping others discover the Father's heart.

That's discipleship.

That's following His lead.

Make It Personal

Have you been trying to prove yourself?

Trying harder.

Doing more.

Depending on your own strength?

Spend a few quiet moments beside the fire today.

Listen as Jesus asks,

"Do you love Me?"

Notice what He doesn't ask.

He doesn't ask about your failures.

He doesn't ask if you've earned another chance.

He simply invites you back into relationship.

Stay there.

What might He be preparing you to do because of what He's taught you?

Practice Today

Think about one lesson Jesus has been teaching you.

Now ask yourself,

"Who needs to learn this from me?"

Encourage someone.

Share your story.

Offer grace before criticism.

Listen before speaking.

Restore before correcting.

Remember...

The responsibility of learning...

Is sharing.

The responsibility of grace...

Is extending grace.

Today...

Feed one of His sheep.
