Heading Into The Unknown

And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem.  I don’t know what awaits me, except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead.     -Acts 20:22-23

God doesn’t always send us to the easy places.  Paul knew he was headed for hardship but he chose to continue because he was bound by the Spirit.  He knew that God was calling him to go and he was willing to move.  He trusted that if God sent him, it was worth it to go, and he knew God would help him along the way.

Even though I know the road ahead will be hard and I don’t know the details of what awaits me, I have to trust that God is in control, protecting me.  I have to look beyond what I don’t know, to the promises I do know.  Heading towards the unknown is really just believing that God is with me and trusting Him, even when the world tells me to turn around.  If Paul knew he was heading into suffering, then I too can head towards suffering, because the same God that carried Paul out will carry me also.
