We Can't Hide

I can never escape from your Spirit!

    I can never get away from your presence!

If I go up to heaven, you are there;

    if I go down to the grave, you are there.

If I ride the wings of the morning,

    if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

even there your hand will guide me,

    and your strength will support me.

- Psalm 139:7-10

In Genesis 3:9 God called out to Adam asking, “Where are you?”.  Of course, He didn’t really need Adam to answer.  God knew where Adam was all along.  He was just allowing Adam to accept His company, giving Adam the choice to invite him into his life….his mess….his trouble.

Even though scripture, like the one above, tells us that God knows where we are at all times.  It is important to remember that God often takes the time to ask us where we are.  So often we are too busy to hear His voice calling us.  Other times we know we aren’t in a good place so we purposely avoid hearing Him.  Our pride or our shame will keep closing our ears to His calling, like a child placing her fingers in her ears so as to not hear her mother’s voice.  It is important to understand that His call isn’t to find our whereabouts, but to give us a chance to let him join us.

Find comfort in God knowing your position at all times.  Praise God for always staying close and never leaving us lost or alone.  But never take for granted that He knows.  Be sure to listen for his call.  Be ready to answer and let God join you where you are.
