Follow My Lead: The Invitation

Yesterday we began by preparing the way. We talked about removing the obstacles that keep us from hearing God's voice and making room for His kingdom to take root in our hearts.

But before we ever choose to follow Him, something even more beautiful happens.

God invites us first.

Long before we sought Him, He sought us.

Long before we loved Him, He loved us.

Long before we ever thought about finding our way home, the Father was already calling us back to Himself.

Listen to His invitation:

"When you come looking for me, you'll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed."
Jeremiah 29:13-14 (MSG)

This isn't an invitation to religion.

It's an invitation to relationship.

It's a Father calling His children home.

The longing we feel for peace, purpose, and belonging isn't an accident. It's evidence that we were created to live in His presence. Ecclesiastes tells us that God has placed eternity in our hearts. We ache for home because we were made for it.

But how do we find an invisible God?

The Father answered that question by sending His Son.

Jesus stepped into our world so we could see what the Father is like. He became the visible image of the invisible God. He showed us compassion, humility, grace, truth, forgiveness, and sacrificial love.

Then He made an incredible claim:

"I am the way."

Not merely someone who points us in the right direction.

The way itself.

Jesus knows the Father because He has been with the Father. He knows the road home because He came from there. And with arms open wide, He invites us to walk with Him.

It's as if the Father says,

"Come find Me."

And Jesus responds,

"Come with Me. I'll take you home."

That's the essence of Follow My Lead.

We don't earn God's love by chasing after Him. We respond because He loved us first. We seek because He invited us. We follow because we've discovered that the One leading us is trustworthy.

And as we draw closer to Him, something unexpected happens.

His character begins to shape ours.

His priorities become our priorities.

His love overflows into the people around us.

In that way, heaven begins to touch earth—not because we force it, but because the life of Christ is being formed within us.

When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He didn't begin with rules.

He began with relationship.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. "And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Love is the starting point.

Love is the motivation.

Love is the response.

We love because He first loved us.

So today, don't focus on trying harder.

Simply respond to the invitation.

The Father is calling.

The Son is leading.

The Spirit is drawing.

And home is waiting.

Make It Personal

God has already extended the invitation. The question is not whether He wants a relationship with you, but whether you are willing to respond.

What is keeping me from seeking God with my whole heart, and what would it look like to make knowing Him my greatest pursuit?
