Follow My Lead: He Has Mercy

The Encounter
Ten men stood at a distance. Their leprosy had separated them from their families, their community, and even the opportunity to worship alongside others. They knew they couldn't make themselves clean, so they did the only thing they could do—they cried out to Jesus for mercy.
Every person who comes to Jesus has a story.
Some come carrying visible wounds. Others carry hidden ones. Some come with questions. Some come searching for hope. Some come longing for healing, while others simply long to know the God who loves them.
Some of our brokenness is visible. Some is hidden deep within our hearts. Pride, fear, shame, bitterness, anxiety, control, unforgiveness—these wounds may not be seen by others, but they shape how we see ourselves, others, and even God. We all need the mercy of God.
Whatever brings us to Jesus, He welcomes us.
He meets us where we are and lovingly invites us to take the next step toward the Father.
Jesus didn't ask the men to prove themselves before coming. He didn't heal only the one who would return. He extended mercy to all ten because that is the Father's heart. His invitation is the same today:
Come.
Bring your questions.
Bring your burdens.
Bring your hopes.
Bring your whole heart.
Then Jesus did something unexpected. Instead of healing them immediately, He told them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they obeyed, they were healed.
Sometimes Jesus invites us to trust Him before we see the outcome. Faith often looks like taking the next step, even when nothing appears to have changed. Healing came as they followed His lead.
But the story doesn't end there.
One man turned around.
Not because he needed something more.
Because his heart had changed.
He returned, praising God with a loud voice, and fell at Jesus' feet in gratitude. The gift had led him back to the Giver.
This is the invitation Jesus extends to each of us.
Come because He calls you.
Follow because you trust Him.
Remain because you love Him.
Jesus never sought glory apart from the Father. Every miracle, every act of compassion, every word of truth revealed the Father's heart. The healed man understood this. His gratitude overflowed into worship because he had encountered more than healing—he had encountered the love of God.
The greatest miracle wasn't simply that his skin was restored.
It was that his heart turned home.
Make It Personal
Imagine yourself standing at a distance with the ten men.
Why have you come to Jesus today?
Perhaps you're carrying a visible burden. Perhaps your struggle is hidden deep within your heart. Maybe you've come with questions, gratitude, hope, or simply a desire to know Him more.
Jesus welcomed every person who came to Him, and He welcomes you today.
As you sit quietly with the Father, picture yourself following Jesus down the road. Listen as He speaks to your heart.
Father, what are You inviting me to see about Your heart today?
Take a few moments to listen. There is no rush. Relationships grow one conversation at a time.
Practice Today
Choose a practice that meets you where you are today.
If you're just beginning, simply spend five quiet minutes talking with the Father. Share honestly what's on your heart, then listen.
If you're learning to trust Him, ask, "Jesus, what is my next step?" Follow the first gentle prompting He brings to mind.
If you've been walking with Him for years, return throughout the day to thank the Father—not only for His gifts, but for His heart. Ask Him to help you remain close to Him.
As you go, intentionally reflect the Father's heart by extending mercy, kindness, forgiveness, compassion, or encouragement to someone you encounter today.
Remember, every step of faith is an opportunity to follow Jesus more closely and discover the Father's heart more deeply.
